b. 1992, New-York, as a French-American citizen. Lives and works in Paris.

Paul Hennebelle explores through his photographic work the multiple definitions of identity and the fragility of belonging to the territory. In an unstable world of mobility and uncertainty, he explores how the changing environment reflects the inner space of young individuals.

He first work on these themes in Transeo, where each image questions the very identity of the author. Blurring the tracks as to their veracity in the story, he develops a self-narrative allowing him to affirm his identity between history and fiction, the feeling of belonging and denial. He self-published the eponymous book in 2017.

Then, from 2016 to 2021, in Goodbye Beirut, he explores a suspended youth, stuck in a transitional world in collapse. The city being where the transformation takes place, he questions its very definition to draw a parallel with his youth. This work was supported by the CNAP in 2021 through a grant, and was exhibited numerous times, through solo and collective exhibitions.

Paul Hennebelle's work is a work of assembling fragile, meticulously articulated images. It is a work of confrontation of elements of an antinomic nature: two types of representations are entwined, two opposite worlds. The old and the new, ruins and stable foundations. His images are both open doors to uncertain horizons, but also walls. He is currently working on a new project called Déluge that further develops these themes.
